First Entry

I'm looking forward to using this blog to share progress of my son Christian growing up. There are so many memories that are priceless to me. I've been thinking for a while now it would be nice to have a diary to keep these memories safe. I'm going to make a point to contribute at least once a week, if not more often as time allows. Right now I'm thinking I'll make entries after we put Christian to bed at 8pm (EST).

Stars!

Wouldn't it be cool if your room as a kid had glow in the dark stars?

I thought so, so I bought Christian a starter pack of 50 stars for $5 from Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

Christian loves stars almost as much as birds. Whenever we read him a book with a star in it he will point over to the American flag (patriotic baby) on his wall.

Last night we put the stars up over Christian's crib so he could see them at night.
Only downside, it has to be completely dark to see them, other downside Christian usually goes to sleep on his tummy :-) Not a big deal, it was still a fun project and I'm sure we'll be putting up many more stars as Christian gets older. Maybe a black light to help them glow too. hmmm...

Home from daycare

Christian's home sick today. Becky took Christian to the doctor a little while ago and confirmed he has ear infections in both ears drums. They prescribed a stronger antibiotic as he just took Amoxicillin two weeks ago for the same problem. Recovering from his immunization shots probably didn't make it any easier. Thankfully Lil Christian is staying in good spirits as always. More soon..

70 Degrees in January?

We just got back from taking Christian and Ally for a walk around the block. 70 Degree weather in January in Charlottesville is quite a treat. Christian is in much better spirits than yesterday so the medicine is helping. Getting an 18 month old to let you put ear drops in his ears is next to impossible.
Christian and I went grocery shopping this morning while Becky took our kitty Sammy in for a checkup. We had fun and everyone at the grocery was smiling and waving at Christian.

Anya and Keira come over for a visit

Today Anya and Keira came over to visit Christian. They had a great time sharing all the toys and books. Everyone shared animal crackers and had fun climbing in the new kitchen cabinets. We took a couple quick videos that I uploaded to videos.google.com. Here are the links:

Little Christian moving up in daycare

Last week Edie Love, the daycare owner, asked what I thought of LC transferring to the next level in daycare. I thought it was a wonderful idea. She said they’d do the transition over the next couple of weeks. LC’s girl friend, Mary (the one who zurberted his belly), will be moving up too. It will be nice for them to continue their blossoming friendship.

This morning when I dropped off LC at daycare he was happy to see Miss Nikki. He gave me a big hug, squeeze and then walked into Miss Nikki’s arms. Nikki said if it was ok with me, she’d like for Christian to join the older class for an hour each day this week. I’m happy and sad at the same time. He’s ready for the next class, new people, toys and experiences. He’s out growing the room he’s in now. But LC and I will miss Nikki very much.

He is transitioning to Miss Dee Dee’s room. Dee Dee is the only teacher that remained after the big, scary restructuring the school did when Nikki came on board about 15 months ago. I have wonderful memories of Dee Dee coming and meeting/taking care of the infants at times. She’s hysterical. She used to tell me that she needs to tickle and pinch the babies. ;-) I’ll keep you all posted as LC moves on up.

Love,
Becky

New sayings - "Yeay!"

I've been meaning to post a couple of Christian's new sayings. We've always made a point of congratulating Christian in everything his does. Early on we started clapping and saying "Good Job!" so Christian quickly caught on and would applaud himself whenever he was proud of something he did. This is great because it shows us Christian is proud of himself.
I also have a tendency to say "Yeay!" whenever Christian succeeded in doing something. Apparently I said it enough that is caught on. Now in addition to or instead of clapping Christian will say the cutest "Yeay" with a smile. It's really priceless, I captured it at the end of this video:

Here's a cute video of Christian picking up and carrying what has to be the biggest container of animal crackers. Strong boy!

Christian's a Ladybug now

Today is Christian's first day full time in the big toddlers room. We said "goodbye" to Miss Nikki in the Rainbow room and "hello" Miss Dee in the Ladybug room. Drop off this morning was a little difficult for both LC and me. His eyes got all wet and a little frown appeared on his face until one of the caretakers picked him up to go look at the birds outside the window. I went to visit him during my lunch break. He and the other toddlers were all napping just as sweet as could be on their little mats. Miss Dee and I had a nice conversation about LC. She's a very nice lady with three girls of her own. She has a huge heart and is filled with patience. LC is already testing her and Miranda (the other big toddler caretaker). She said he does it in such a funny, sweet way. He'll make that face, the one where he knows he's not supposed to be doing something, and then he'll slowly start to do whatever it is he shouldn't be. All Miss Dee has to do is say his name or clear her throat and he immediately stops what ever it was he was doing, still smiling the whole time. She said he's really improving eating with a spoon. Today at lunch they had peas. And a couple actually made it from the plate to his mouth on the spoon. Although she admitted a lot did not make it. ;-) All in all, I'm sad to say good bye to Miss Nikki, but I'm very excited LC has graduated to Miss Dee's class. This is truely an exciting time.

New Haircut and Drinking Problem

Yesterday Becky took Christian to get his haircut after daycare. As much as we love those curls it was getting a little long (approching Mullet length in the back.) Christian was nice and calm just like during his first haircut. I'll have a couple pictures up on the main site shortly. In the meantime we made a couple videos of Christian practicing drinking from a cup (he's been using a sippy cup for a long time) and using a fork. We're very proud of him. Check them out here:

Milk does a body good

Every night before bedtime we love to ask Christian if he wants a bottle of milk- a loaded question. Next we ask him where the milk is. He walks quickly to the refrigerator and waits for us to get the bottle ready. There are a few seconds of panic while we get the milk ready, but from there on out then he's one happy baby. Here are two clips of Christian enjoying some milk.

Whee!! Rocking Horse Fun

At Christmas Christian's feet couldn't reach far enough to safely ride the rocking horse. Looks like he's definitely had a growth spurt. Here's a one minute video showing Christian having a blast on his rocking horse. Whee!!
